COMIDA DE NAVIDAD/CHRISTMAS LUNCH

Como todos los años, la comida de Navidad se celebra en mi casa, y tengo la tradicion de preparar la mayoria de los platos por adelantado la noche anterior. Y eso es lo que estoy haciendo ahora. El menu de este año es:

- Aperitivos de Queso, Foie y mermeladas.

- Dip Picante de Espinacas y Mozarella.

- Pavo Asado con puré de patatas, dos rellenos, salsa de boniato y de arandanos.

- Tarta de Queso de Calabaza.

Suena bien, ¿verdad? Pues en lo que va de tarde me he dado cuenta que no he comprado azucar, espinacas ni mozarella....

Like every year, I'm in charge of Chrsitmas lunch, and I usually prepare most of the dishes the night before so I can relax on Christmas Day. And that is what I'm doing now. This years menu is:

- Cheese, Foie and marmalades.

- Spicy Spinach and Mozarella Dip

- Roasted turkey with two stuffings, mashed potatos, candied yams, and cranberry jelly.

- Pumpkin Cheesecake.

Sounds good, doesn't it? So far I've realized I didn't buy sugar, spinach or mozarella...

CARNAVAL / CARNIVAL / MARDI GRAS

PARA TODAS LAS COSAS HAY SAZON / TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON

Muy a mi pesar, acabo de enterarme que uno de mis autores favoritos murió la semana pasada. Anne McCaffrey empezó a escribir hace más de 45 años, sobre todo una serie de libros sobre el planeta de Pern, donde una antigua colonia de la Tierra combate contra unas esporas alienígenas mortales a lomos de dragones gigantes. Dicho así suena un pelín chorra, pero son unos libros increíbles. Tienes otras series igual de buenas, pero las de Pern son mis favoritas.

Si nunca habéis leído sus libros, deberíais hacerlo YA, merecen la pena. Por cierto, los personajes se comunican con los dragones telepáticamente (¿creéis que James Cameron los leyó?)

Este  verano iba a asistir, como solía hacer, a una convención SciFi, pero cancelo debido a una indigestión, que resultó ser una leve complicación cardiaca. Y el día 21 tuvo un ataque masivo del que no se recuperó. 

Los libros de Pern siguen siendo escritos por Todd McCaffrey y Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, así que al menos seguirán existiendo, pero se echara mucho en falta a la gran Anne McCaffrey.

To my regret, I just learned that one of my favorite authors died last week. Anne McCaffrey started writing more than 45 years ago, most famously a series of books about the planet Pern, where a colony of Terra fight against deadly alien spores on the backs of giant dragons. That sounds a bit silly, but the books are really amazing. She has other equally good series, but the Pern ones are my favorite.

If you have never read her books, you should do it NOW, it’s totally worthwhile. By the way, the characters communicate telepathically with the dragons (do you think that James Cameron read them?)

This summer she was going to attend a SciFi convention as usual, but canceled due to indigestion, which later proved to be a slight cardiac complication. And on the 21^st of November she had a massive attack from which she didn’t recover.

Pern books are now being written by Todd McCaffrey and Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, so at least they still exist, but we will truly miss the great Anne McCaffrey.
